Sound Walk September Stories Sunday

Earlier in the year, on our sister walk · listen · create website, we ran a writing competition in which we asked people to submit poetry and prose of 250 words or under the theme of the “Walking Home” – the theme was chosen by our writers-in-residence Lydia Kennaway and Claudia Zeiske and we had a fantastic number (100+) and quality of submissions (you can read the Top 24 here)

Now it’s time to Showcase those writers with an online event today, Sunday 25th September at 4.30pm BST, which two of them will win the accolade of writers-in-residence for 2022/23. Book your ticket here.

We are also excited to be working with Milton Keynes Literary Festival (MK LitFest) with whom we’ve created an audio anthology called “Milton Keynes Walking Home” as a geo-located walk around Great Linford Manor Park and the Grand Union Canal. The 12 shortlisted works are included, as well as 7 pieces by local writers who were shortlisted in competitions run by MK LitFest and The Parks Trust. If you happen to be in Milton Keynes you can download the ECHOES app and enjoy them for yourself or listen to them remotely but we’re also hoping that you’ll come and join us at the showcase.

We are delighted that poet and broadcaster Jake Morris-Campbell who had been introduced to us when invited as a guest by Lydia Kennaway for a Footloose event, accepted our invitation to be our MC for the Showcase.  Lydia has been hosting Footloose poetry conversations during the year, and will be hosting her final episode, with acclaimed nature writer and poet, Helen Mort at 7pm BST on on Monday, 26th Septemberbook your ticket here.

All about walking blog posting is unpredictable – if it’s raining biblical downpours then a blog post is more likely to appear, in most other weather conditions we are out walking and not blogging on a keyboard…..
