The Walking Library is an ongoing creative research project created by Misha Myers and Dee Heddon, that seeks to bring together walking and books – walking, reading, reflecting, writing… Inaugurated in 2012, each Walking Library edition we create responds to – is specific to – the context of its walking. Each walk changes the shape – the content and the actions – of the library. The Walking Library, bringing together walking and reading, follows in the footsteps of a long history.

I visualize walks in photos, text and books.

Places, books and other diversions. My name’s Matt, or Matthew if you are my Mum, or a marketing email, being creepily familiar. I am from Bristol, England, but for a long time I’ve lived in London.

John Ryan Brubaker (he/him) is a visual artist based in West Virginia. He is interested in the peripheries of the photographic process, experimenting with everything from presentation and distribution models to the chemical make up of photographic paper. Often utilizing hybrid forms of photographic media, he builds collections of visual records from his environment, at times using river water, found coal or rainfall to make prints, books and installations. He has exhibited throughout the US and Europe, including at the Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington, the Juliet Museum, the Hirshhorn, Harlan Levey Projects and many others. He has been published by the Virginia Quarterly Review, Ampersand Editions, the Fotomuseum of Antwerp and others.

A call for people to send me their walks. I am asking people to send me audio of descriptions of their walk while they are in Lockdown. I will then transcribe and share text versions on social media and add to a library of walks.
