We are delighted to announce the winner and runner-up in the first chapter of our year-long On Pilgrimage poetry competition. Each quarter beginning in February this year, we have a new theme and new volunteer judges, and our first quarter theme of Solvitur Ambulando was chosen by judge Electra Rhodes. She was joined in the judging by Marcelle Newbold and each chose the winner outright.
Pilgrimage on the Boulevard of Broken Promises by Luyten was the winner, taking away a cash prize and a copy of a limited numbered edition of Take this One to Bed by fellow poet Antony Dunn.
Marcelle commented: “Pilgrimage on the Boulevard of Broken Promises is a beautiful reflection on the power of place, ritual and emotional legacy. The careful pacing, and choice of second person, binds the reader/listener into the twilight, into the transition from ‘is’ to ‘was’.”
Close runner-up was Leanne Wicks with her poem Dear Kuranjong Tree on the Hill – she too wins a smaller cash prize and a copy of Antony’s collection of poems.

We are only a month into the second chapter of the On Pilgrimage poetry competition, with Peter Finch and Emma Storr taking on the judging responsibilities, with Peter offering a copy of his two volumes of Collected Poems as a prize for the winner, aside from the cash up for grabs.
We encourage everyone to submit a poem on the new theme of “A Sacred Place” chosen by Emma – simply go here to find how and what you need for an entry.
Concurrently, we are running a series of monthly panel discussions with thought leaders, artist researchers and walking artists On Pilgrimage, the next in the series is on Stories from the Pilgrim’s Road on Tuesday 7 July.
