Are you an artist, researcher, educator, curator, designer, environmental practitioner, health worker, heritage professional or cultural organiser interested in walking as an artistic, ecological and social practice?
Ten years after the first Made of Walking gathering in Delphi, Greece, and following many iterations and collaborations in Portugal, France, Cyprus, Greece and Catalonia, Made of Walking returns with an anniversary edition on the Belgian-Dutch border.
From 11 to 17 September 2026, the border landscape around Prosperpolder will become a shared field of exploration for artists in residence and European partners from Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. The week marks the first part of a special anniversary programme unfolding over two years in the frame of the Creative Europe project WALC – Walking Arts and Local Communities.
Made of Walking – Prosperpolder 2026 explores questions of ecology, heritage, community, technology and the ongoing transformation of the landscape, with particular attention to walking as a form of care and ecological regeneration.
This first chapter invites us to walk, discover, exchange and meet together. The programme brings together walking performances, film, sound and media art, storytelling, participatory mapping, talks and collective walks.
Invited artists and participants include Fred Adam (FR), Ienke Kastelein (NL), Katerina Drakopoulou (GR), Simone Etter (CH), Alba Sauleda (ES), Clara Gari (ES), Mary Marinopoulou (GR), Natacha Antão (PT), Annemarie Lopez (UK), Creative Media for Social Change (NL), the Gigacircus collective (FR) and Marc Dhaenens (BE).
We warmly invite you not only to join us, but also to contribute. A few slots are still available for collaborations, presentations and walkshops. The Open Walking Lab, hosted in the exhibition space at Hof ter Welle in Beveren, also offers an opportunity to share your own work and practices or to introduce your collective, initiative or organisation.

Walking Arts & Local Communities (WALC) is an artistic cooperation project, co-funded by the European Union, Creative Europe, starting in January 2024 for four years. With seven partners from five countries, WALC establishes an International Center for Artistic Research and Practice of Walking Arts, in Prespa, Greece, at the border with Albania and North Macedonia, backed up by an online counterpart in the format of a digital platform for walking arts.
WALC builds on the previous work of hundreds of artists and researchers already practicing Walking Arts as a collaborative medium, and having met at the significant previous walking arts events and encounters in Greece, Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, and during online activities at walk · listen · create.

WAP26 (Walking as Practice, 2026)
The WAP26 program turned nomadic as we walk the Stockholm Archipelago. This time we walk with the collective in addition we open up 2-4 positions for artists that we don’t already know and three by invitation. Walking Between Worlds reflects on Made of Walking Prosperpolder as an evolving walking arts practice. Through walks, performances and dialogue, it explores how artists, communities and landscapes co-create long-term ecological and social relationships.
• Made of Walking: A Living Ecology of Walking Arts
Made of Walking is an international series of artistic encounters, residencies and laboratories initiated in 2016 by The Milena Principle and its partners. Bringing together artists, researchers, local communities and environmental organisations in remote, peripheral and border landscapes across Europe, the Mediterranean and beyond, each edition explores walking as an artistic, ecological and regenerative cultural practice. Artist residencies, walkshops, performances, exhibitions, collaborative mapping, public conversations and site-responsive interventions become opportunities not simply to produce artworks, but to cultivate enduring relationships between people, places and more-than-human worlds.
