Anna Braithwaite is a composer, performer and sound artist based in Folkestone, UK. Her practice encompasses music, theatre and community co-creation.
HULKED
Anna completed her first geolocated sound walk using the Echoes app in May 2024. The Hulked sound walk forms a part of a larger creative heritage project which centres around the Thames Barges and related industry in North Kent, UK. The 'Hulked' sound walk was co-created with writer/performer Dr Jeremy Scott (University of Kent), Tiller & Wheel CIC, Oast House Community Choir and Lower Halstow Primary School with funding and partnership from: Arts Council England, Kent University, Kent County Council, Electric Medway and Creative Estuary. This piece was shortlisted for the 2024 Sound Walk September award. SOMNAMBULIST
This binaural piece was created for Fat Lady Opera and SparkedEcho using fragments of music from the opera ‘Persephone’s Dream’. Anna was lent a binaural microphone as part SparkedEcho’s Test + Develop programme. She explored her local environment on foot during her 1 hour of allowed freedom during Covid lockdown to create this immersive soundscape. ‘Somnambulist’ was included in the digital festival ‘Electric Medway’ and was broadcast as part of alt. radio festival ‘Radiophrenia’ at 1pm on 21st Nov. 2020.
PILGRIMAGE
was commissioned by Deal Festival (UK) and saw Anna conducting a three day walk along the Kent coast from Deal to Dover and then along the Pilgrim's way to Canterbury. The audio captured during this walk was exhibited in a 360 degree immersive audio rig (supplied by Screen South) at the Deal festival in July 2025 and as part of the Screen South 'Reveal' exhibition of immersive art in Sept. 2025 in Folkestone (UK).
