Anna Tzakou is a theatre deviser, performer and a practice- based researcher. She studied Contemporary Performance at Naropa University (Boulder, CO). She holds a PhD in Performance Practice entitled: Geopoetics, a mindfulness (sati) site-specific performance practice, from the University of Exeter (UK). In her thesis, she integrates principles of Buddhism and Geography with American and European methods of post-modern theater to structure a body-landscape performance practice methodology. Her performance work and teaching is focused on somatics, psychophysical actor training and meditation as/ in improvisation. In 2012 she founds performance group Geopoetics, where she devises walking and site-specific performances for urban and rural landscapes. Her research has been published in the USA, UK, Spain and Greece and presented at conferences of performance practice, walking and site-specific performance and architecture. Anna has taught performance training and site-specific performance in drama departments in the UK and Netherlands. Now she teaches at the Department of Performance and Digital Arts in the University of Peloponnese.
