Toronto’s Ben Pobjoy (b. 1981, Canada) is an avid walker that is passionate about converting physical movement into social movement. In January 2015, he made a New Year’s Resolution to lose weight by walking 2015 kms that year. He ended up walking more than 5,800 kms and losing 100 lbs. Along the way, he began distributing homemade sandwiches to in-need people on the streets; feeding over 1,000 people on his walks.

Over the course of 2016 and 2017, Pobjoy began to use solo self-organized ultra marathons to fundraise tens of thousands of dollars for community causes; from Toronto all the way to Tokyo.

In 2018, he launched a free community initiative called Democratic Exercise to pair walking with conversations among strangers to create greater empathy among people from different walks of life.

Pobjoy has gained attention for his many movement-focused initiatives; appearing in national ad campaigns, earning profiles in major newspapers and news sites, speaking on well-known podcasts, writing forewords for award-winning books, and releasing three photo books entirely made on his global treks.

Pobjoy continues to move daily, and has surpassed 43,000+ kms of tracked walks (having done somewhere around 300 self-organized marathons on six continents)… which is a distance as great as the equatorial circumference of the earth.
