David is a multi-skilled physical performer with over 35 years’ experience in the performing arts sector. He has worked as an actor, musician and circus performer for some of Australia’s best known performing arts companies including Chamber Made – ‘Greek’ (1996), ‘The Cars That Ate Paris’ (1999), ‘The Two Executioners’ (2002), ‘Phobia’ (2008-09); Circus Oz – performer/trainer (1990-2020); Institute of Complex Entertainment – ‘Tower of Light’, Green Room Award Winner (2003) and Dee & Associates – ‘Taxi’, Green Room Award Winner (2011).

In 2021, his company Bowerbird Theatre was commissioned by the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria to create an audio tour of the gardens – Flora & the Baron. In 2018 Bowerbird Theatre, in collaboration with TCL (Australia’s most awarded landscape architecture firm), produced their immersive performance work ‘Lingua Botanica’. In 2016 he completed a Master of Applied Theatre Studies at the University of New England, for which he received the Philip Parsons Prize for best Performance as Research project Australasia (ADSA). In 2015 he formed Bowerbird Theatre with Karen Berger and under its aegis devised and performed his award-winning solo show ‘Deceptive Threads’, which was chosen for the VCE Drama List, 2018. In 2014 he performed in ‘Tales of the Laneway’s and ‘Behind the Public Eye’ as part of ‘The 24-Hour Experience’ and completed a two-month national tour of ‘Controlled Falling Project’. In 2013 he played a major role in the site-specific adaptation of Italo Calvino’s ‘The Baron of the Trees’ for the Castlemaine State Festival.

David plays drum kit and percussion for the double ARIA award winning 26-piece band Melbourne Ska Orchestra, as well as playing regularly in the Melbourne live music scene with many other bands.

During his professional career he has also worked concurrently as a community artist, teacher and workshop facilitator in a wide range of contexts including the disability sector, Indigenous communities, education and corporate settings.

David is a qualified Asian cook, Landscape Designer and professional gardener.

He was also recently employed as Seniors Program Facilitator at the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, running a therapeutic horticulture program with aged care residents.
