Fabiola Santana is a dance artist exploring performance as a way to connect, exchange and transform. Researching grief using performance for 6 years, including residencies with arts organisations LADA and Dying Matters. Fabiola received a Lancaster Arts and Live ART UK Diverse Actions Commission 2018, where she researched and tested A Home for Grief as a 1 to 1 performance.
A Home for Grief is currently touring - 3 sound-walks; 1 to 1 performance & installation - Liverpool, Lancaster & Manchester.
After professional dance training, Fabiola forged an interdisciplinary practice across dance, theatre and live art, with extensive site-based performance experience, including performing on the beach with choreographer Rosemary Lee and creating an international award-winning dance film with Will Dickie, Canning Town.
Fabiola was born to a displaced black Angolan mother and white Portuguese father who grew up under a dictatorship. Inhabiting a space between ethnicity and culture. Inheriting traumas that have shaped who she is. Seeking to understand the potential for community building and collective healing through performance, her work places participants at its epicentre. Fabiola is interested in how we can develop mutual trust through intimate and vulnerable shared encounters.
