Jonathan Baxter is an artist, curator and peer-educator living in Scotland. His work explores themes of social and ecological justice through peer-learning programmes, socially engaged art projects, exhibitions, walks and ... more. Since 2009 Jonathan has developed a series of site responsive art projects including Dundee Artists in Residence (2009-12), Dundee Urban Orchard (2013-17), On Site Projects, Dundee (2013-18), and Sharing Not Hoarding, a poster-based public art project, also in Dundee (2015-ongoing). Subsequent projects have included Community Out of Bounds, Aberdeen (2015-16) and Murmur: Artists Reflect on Climate Change, Ullapool (2016-17). More recent projects include the co-curation of Extinction Rebellion’s Fringe programme at Summerhall, Edinburgh (2019), Future Fruit, a collaboration with Deveron Projects’ The Town is the Garden programme, Huntly (2019-20), A+E, an embedded artist residency with St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral, Edinburgh (2020-30), Craigmillar and Communities Walking Residency with Art Walk Projects (2021-26), an embedded artist residency with Edinburgh Communities Climate Action Network (2025-26), and Every Inch Matters, an Edinburgh-based comunity orchard project (2025-ongoing). Many of these projects integrate creative walking practices to foster deeper connection between people and place.
