Katerina Pistola is a PhD candidate in Walking Art and Sociology of Art at the Department of Fine and Applied Arts, University of Western Macedonia, and a licensed mountain leader and hiking guide based in Greece. She contributes to WALC & WAC25 Encounters in Prespa as a hiking guide and member of the organising committee. She holds a Master’s degree in Applied–Clinical Sociology & Arts, focusing on walking as an empowerment tool for people with dementia and mild cognitive impairment, and is co-founder of Careterra, an NGO that empowers communities through outdoor activities and cultural walking tours, fostering inclusion, sustainability, and collective growth.
Her recent research explores walking as an inclusive artistic and social practice, with particular attention to accessibility, care, and cognitive diversity and how gendered experiences shape the act of walking and the perception of space, drawing on feminist, queer, and postcolonial perspectives.
