Ridha Dhib
Ridha DHIB is a Paris-based walking artist and visual artist. His work explores walking as an artistic, performative, and geopolitical act, questioning the notions of traces, borders, and collective memory.
For over 20 years, he has been developing hybrid performances combining cartography, digital media, and the materiality of movement, inscribing his trajectories in space as a writing of the world in motion.
Some of his major performances include:
"Ex-tracés" (2022, 5,232 km, Paris-Mardin) – A performative walk from Paris to Turkey, retracing in reverse the Balkan route taken by many refugees.
"Hor-I-zons" (2019, 3,400 km, Paris-Sousse) – An intercontinental journey connecting personal and historical landscapes.
"Rosace en confinement" (2020) – A constrained, circular walk during the first lockdown, questioning the relationship to restricted space.
In 2025, his research unfolds through a performance diptych in Greece. He initiates his "Cardio-Cartographies" protocol, where the heartbeat replaces the kilometer as the unit of measurement in order to capture the emotional and organic intensity of the path. This approach gives rise to "Prespa's Butterflies", a threshold-walk reactivating a trace from his Ex-tracés journey, and to "A Line to Cross, A Voice to Follow", a performance on the synchronicity of a border crossing.
His approach considers walking as a writing of presence and the invisible, where each step becomes a trace and a transmutation of territory. He is particularly interested in living archives, thresholds, and transitional zones, developing a poetics of movement in dialogue with history and geopolitics.
