Last Listener at the Mid Atlantic Frost Fair
Last Listener at the Mid Atlantic Frost Fair is a soundscape of a poem by Michael S Roberts, an English poet and polymath. It chronicles a mythical, dreamlike and almost hyperstitional journey of the poet and protagonist through a frozen world.
Walking a liminal line
Terminalia, celebrated on February 23rd, is an ancient Roman festival honoring Terminus, the god of boundaries, marked by sacrifices at boundary stones instituted by King Numa Pompilius. This practice evolved into the English custom of Beating the Bounds and inspires contemporary boundary walks, such as the author’s 2020 walk along the sea-land boundary in Skagaströnd, Iceland.
Percursos-experiência: propostas para rever a cidade
The audio-paper discusses the 2019 performative project "Three routes and a detour towards the same end," developed during the "Dramaturgies of the Everyday" research at the University of Porto. The project consists of four guided walks through Porto’s Bonfim district, using distinct approaches to explore urban fictionality, narrative time, and subjective experience within everyday routes.
Búðahraun
This work investigates distance, time, movement, and place through replicated walks across the Búðahraun lava field in Iceland, captured via field recording and sound design. Originally broadcast on Resonance Extra’s Flux, it explores liminal spaces and temporality by contrasting walks at dawn and dusk on the summer solstice, integrating natural sounds and embodied movement into a sonic portrait of the landscape.

Mahone Bay might have falafel, too, but I’ll never know, because we’re all eating together tonight at the United Church, where we’re staying. We left … Continue reading South Shore Camino, Day One: Lunenburg to Mahone Bay →

38. Simon Coleman and John Eade, eds., Reframing Pilgrimage: Cultures in Motion
When I finished Ian Reader’s short introduction to pilgrimage as a field of inquiry, I decided to dive headfirst into the literature on the subject. My first stop: this 2004 anthology on mobility and pilgrimage, edited by Simon Coleman and John Eade. Coincidentally, as I was reading the essays collected by Coleman and Eade, my […]
