Artist to Walk Around Iceland in Three-Month Nomadic Art Project

Berlin-based artist and photographer Dario J. Laganà will begin a three-month walking project around Iceland in June, combining performance art, environmental observation and documentary work. The project, titled Of Walking on Foot, will run from 4 June to 27 August 2026. Laganà plans to travel counterclockwise around the island on foot while pulling a custom-built…

Exemple […]

“We walk, then we are” – Grand Tour

In this text I reflect on certain characteristics of walking in a group, as a result of my research in the Grand Tour project. I develop concepts such as compass, time for nothing or ephemeral and nomadic community. Source: “We walk, then we are” – Grand Tour

The Impossibility of Straight Walking

While chatting about walking the other day, as we do, Fiona mentioned something she'd read in Shane O'Mara's excellent book In Praise Of Walking. Humans are, apparently, incapable of walking in straight lines when blindfolded or otherwise prevented from seeing landmarks. Participants were asked to walk either in a large and dense forest or in […]

A soft armour

It is the simplest thing I can think of. And the simplest things always make the most sense. It is easy. You open your door, you close it behind you. You take your house with you and you walk. Your body moves through the world, becomes part of the worl...

On Walking by Phil Smith

The post brings two new books on walking, from the UK. On the cover, photographs of lush vegetation bring back pleasant memories from rural and urban walks across green-grassed, greyed-sky Britain. The first book On Walking, opens with a long subtitle. The author – artist, writer, playwright, performer, academic, counter-tourist – owns up to “stalking […]

Day 94 (2). Letting go

It feels like an anti-climax. Having almost reached the end of my walk and being stuck at a campsite because it is raining, sitting unadventurously inside the campsite restaurant drinking coffee and Grüner Veltliner. Yesterday evening, in the toilet bu...

Day 91. Going up.

It wasn't until the last two kilometers that I started to think about leaving C. behind. The first time the thought crossed my mind was when the path was overtaken by a cloud. I had seen the sunny sky turning into a cloudy grey mass getting darker and ...

Day 40. Walking with my mother & father

The end and the beginning. I had feared this day. But only in the last couple of days, because for a long time there had been no end and no beginning apart from the beginning and the ending of the day.I had been enclosed in the day, lived the day like ...
