The Green Line
In the summer of 1995 I performed a walk with a leaking can of blue paint in the city of São Paulo. The walk was then read as a poetic gesture of sorts. In June 2004, I re-enacted that same performance with a leaking can of green paint by tracing a line following the portion of the ‘Green Line’ that runs through the municipality of Jerusalem.

The colonial exploitation of capitalism
Back in 2018, I visited the lovely town of Olinda in northern Brazil. It's popular with tourists, mostly Brazilian, and when my wife and I were admiring the town's facades, a man walked from around the corner and started talking to us, assuming we were Brazilian tourists. He was a tour guide and wanted to sell his services, and one of the very first things he said was "Oh, if only the Dutch had stayed, Brazil would be so much better off, today".

From the center of São Paulo, I walk a circular route to the place in which independence was proclaimed. Like the royal rulers who set foot on Brazilian soil, I return to where I started, traveling through today's Brazil to reflect on its past.

September: Coburg and London – Market Place, The Police, Strange Music Day
This post features four audio tracks recorded during walking improvisations at the 2014 Coburg Samba Festival in Germany and Notting Hill Carnival in London. John Hicks and Gregory Cowan captured ambient and improvised sounds as they moved through festival spaces, interacting with participants and the local environment.
The Museum of Yesterday
The Museum of Yesterday (Museu do Ontem) is a mobile app offering around 160 location-specific stories, articles, audios, and videos about Rio de Janeiro’s old port, Porto Maravilha, accessible only by physically visiting the sites. Developed with Agência Pública and featuring art by Juliana Russo and narration by Anelis Assumpção, the bilingual app emphasizes exploration through a non-interactive map that limits visible areas to the device screen.

The Frestas Triennial Expands the Art Universe
