Since finishing the work, I’ve been thinking about why I keep walking along this abandoned rail line and realised it is not about how I made the work, but the layers of history I gathered in local archives and how those stories need to be kept alive

The audience follows two female performance artists’ verbalized, internal processes while they perform the act of walking in South African cities. Encouraging the contemplation of the meeting between the private and the public sphere.

ONE OH EIGHT is a pair of geolocated binaural audio dramas designed to be listened to in situ on the 108 bus routes in Cape Town and London, accessible via the Echoes.xyz platform or mobile app. The London route covers diverse neighborhoods from Blackheath to Stratford International Station, while the Cape Town route traverses areas including Hangberg, Hout Bay, and Sea Point, highlighting contrasting social histories and environments.
Sounds from the Rim of Africa
The Rim of Africa is a long-distance walking route through the Cape Fold Mountains near Cape Town, completed in 2012 by Jay Simpson during a National Geographic Young Explorer’s Grant. Over 50 days, Simpson scouted the passage and recorded ambient sounds of the wilderness, including streams, wildlife, and hiking activities, which are available as a free sound collage on SoundCloud.
