In Autumn 2018, we worked in collaboration with Birmingham Literature Festival to add a little something extra to their programme. We commissioned 12 writers to create bespoke poems (and one short story!) inspired by venues around the city centre, where BLF were hosting events.

Using GPS traces, we made a living portrait of 24 hours in Birmingham with the people who move through its streets, parks, waste grounds and tow paths on foot for the Fierce Festival and the Midlands Art Centre (MAC).

Sound artist Nikki Sheth has created a 60-minute soundwalk in Stirchley for the Ten Acres of Sound Festival, featuring field recordings of natural and man-made sounds at specific listening points mapped throughout the area. The walk, accessible via the free SOUNDwalker app, guides users with GPS-triggered audio that evolves from environmental sounds to abstract compositions, offering an immersive, site-specific listening experience.

A Conversation for Robot and Fly is a three-movement sound work combining field recordings from rural Leicestershire, overheard conversations, and sounds from the Birmingham School of Art building. This version is presented as a geolocated sound piece accessible via the Echoes App at the original site on Margaret Street, Birmingham.

This walk examines arts spaces in Digbeth, highlighting the area's historical changes and future regeneration linked to HS2. It features recorded sounds from arts venues, artist conversations, and landmarks like the train viaduct and River Rea, accessible via the SOUNDwalker app.
