An invitation to participate
Autumn approaches and the Equinox is only a few days away, falling on Wednesday 23rd September.
In common with previous proocations, it uses time and walking as a common thread.
The Autumn Equinox marks the first day of Autumn in the Northern Hemisphere and Spring in the Southern.
It’s also known as the pagan festival of Mabon – celebrated when day and night are in principle, of equal duration.
It’s possibly a moment to recognise a sense of balance and to recognise the change of season which is marked by a change of day length, a evolving landscape and the approach of winter or spring.
The Equinox occurs on Wednesday 23rd and in order to enable continuity across continents.
The work should recognise and refer to the ‘equinox’.
The works must be initiated and created on that date and as a result of a walk.
The walk can be indoors or out and may be as long or as short as the artist determines.
As with most projects there are a few creative restrictions
The walk will comprise units of one hundred – that can be paces, metres, degrees of direction, seconds or even as artist Ridha Dhib suggests in his current project; heartbeats. Whatever you decide.
The number 100 (one hundred) is one of the most culturally, mathematically, and scientifically significant numbers in human civilisation. It serves as our primary symbol of completeness, perfection, and a fresh starting point

Artist’s statements

In them, you may like to refer to the provocation and your response to it.
In addition, please give details about the location and time you made the work.
You may want to consider using www.what3words.com as a concise way of sharing your location.
If you have a website or alternatively no more than one social media page, please include details
Submission date
Saturday 3rd October.
Submissions
Please send your files via www.wetransfer.com to kel@artworks.eu.com.
Selection
As mentioned, as the final result will be presented as a video, there’s a need to limit numbers. As a result there will be a selection of 12 artists.
Once notified, the video will be assembled and produced for a ‘first cut’.
This is to allow for corrections and errors.
The 2nd cut will follow and once agreed will be published on either Vimeo or YouTube.
I plan to complete the first cut around the end of the second week of October
Well, I hope that’s covered everything without sounding too authoritarian.
Please get back to me with any questions you may have.
Best wishes for a happy Equinox.
