Hosted by Electra Rhodes and Andrew Stuck, the 39 Steps Writers’ Showcase event introduced new writing from 19 authors in our micro-flash fiction writing competition and included readings of their prose.
Run in conjunction with Sampson Low Publishers, with a special prize given by Caroline Gannon, the walk · listen · create writing competition attracted scores of entries. Challenged to write a story in 39 words or under inspired by John Buchan’s man-on-the-run thriller The Thirty Nine Steps, entrants were given the chance to make up to four entries.
Entries were judged by volunteer judges, Nick Sayers and Mary Loring. The shortlisted pieces are published in 39 Steps, a limited edition illustrated chapbook anthology, and concurrently issued as a geo-located audio anthology in locations chosen by the authors, sale proceeds of which go to support future walk · listen · create writing competitions.
