an/other time

"an/other time" is an audio/visual experiential work explored on the streets using a custom-made iOS app, an Apple mobile device, headphones and a map. The work encompasses over 70 short pieces [min: 25sec & max: 120sec] of shared migrant stories from 14 residents in Moonah, lutruwita/Tasmania, Australia. The snippets consist of video, audio, animations and silent moving images created from crowd-sourced content from 14 people, including their interviews, personal photos and video. "an/other time" is an interactive work exploring networked media, physical space and place, the built environment and migrant experiences.

"an/other time" was an attempt to create a narrative that does not limit the potential depth of the story and extended the work itself out into the public space and augmenting the space with personal stories. The street adds an unforeseen element accompanying the images, audio and moving images that one discovers along this walk of “an/other time”.

The work plays with non-linear narrative form, each experience being unique and with the potential to create different versions depending on how deep one goes into the app and how much content one experiences and who one engages with out of the 14.

"an/other time" more than simply re-tells stories from the past; it encourages one to extend, personalise and reconsider experiences while interacting with a mobile device and the street. "an/other time" is an invitation to reconsider or re-imagine the past while experiencing the now. This blending of perceptions of the present with ideas of the past, attempts to prompt questions like, What was it like? and Who are these people? What was once here? while hearing stories of life without TV and more.
