“Paradox of Praxis 1″ documents in video a 9 hours peformance carried out by Francis Alÿs in the streets of Mexico City, in which he pushes a big block of ice until it was completely melted. The statement “sometimes making something leads to nothing” is the first thing to show in three different languages in the video, lasting nearly 5 minutes, edited out of the 9 hours walk.
For the Idle Walk of the Year, the Berserk group carried objects from the Ethnological Museum to Amalienborg Square as slowly as possible, while Eric polished the Palace square with petroleum, continuing the museum’s long-standing floor-care tradition.
In the summer of 1995 I performed a walk with a leaking can of blue paint in the city of São Paulo. The walk was then read as a poetic gesture of sorts. In June 2004, I re-enacted that same performance with a leaking can of green paint by tracing a line following the portion of the ‘Green Line’ that runs through the municipality of Jerusalem.
Suite Vénitienne is a series of photographs and diaristic texts documeting Sophie Calle’s surveillance of Henry B, a man she does not know and has no particular reason to follow. An investigation on her own psychological projections and emotions while building a fictional construct around her subject.
