A Quiet Game Around Art and Health
An interactive session with Clara Gari (Catalonia)
How can artistic collaboration reshape our understanding of mental health? Can play become a way of creating new relationships and meanings?
In this interactive session, Clara Gari presents Parelles Artístiques (Artistic Pairs), a pioneering initiative by the Catalan public mental health organisation Osonament that brings together artists and people connected to mental health services to create a shared artwork. Rather than treating art as therapy, the project fosters spaces of encounter, mutual recognition and co-creation, challenging stigma through artistic practice.
Drawing on her own collaboration within the project, Clara shares how her artistic pair reimagined the original framework by embracing playfulness, uncertainty and experimentation. Together they developed the Tarot de les Emocions (Tarot of Emotions), a creative deck of cards that transforms the artwork into an open-ended tool for dialogue, imagination and reflection.
The session combines presentation, conversation and participation. Attendees will be invited to explore and play with the Tarot de les Emocions, experiencing how artistic games can open new perspectives on emotions, relationships, creativity and mental wellbeing.
Format: Interactive presentation with creative participation
Audience: Artists, educators, health professionals, researchers, students and anyone interested in participatory art, mental health and creative practice.
Walking Arts & Local Communities (WALC) is an artistic cooperation project, co-funded by the European Union, Creative Europe, starting in January 2024 for four years. With seven partners from five countries, WALC establishes an International Center for Artistic Research and Practice of Walking Arts, in Prespa, Greece, at the border with Albania and North Macedonia, backed up by an online counterpart in the format of a digital platform for walking arts.
WALC builds on the previous work of hundreds of artists and researchers already practicing Walking Arts as a collaborative medium, and having met at the significant previous walking arts events and encounters in Greece, Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, and during online activities at walk · listen · create.
