Australian Walking Artists Retreat: Walking the Wilds, the Winds and the Rainbows

20-23 August 2026, Rainbow Beach, Queensland

This Retreat complements the exhibition WALKING ART NOW at Gympie Regional Gallery (17 July-27 August 2026). The Retreat will be based at Rainbow Beach and the Cooloola region in Queensland, a spectacular area renowned for its beaches, high dunes, wilderness and wildflowers. Rainbow Beach is a three hour drive from Brisbane.

Participants will:

  • Enjoy a fascinating program of walkshops and talks
  • Explore walking practices in the unique locations of the Cooloola region
  • Connect with other walking artists
  • Share your ideas and participate in collaboration and experimentation.

What will it cost?
AWA Members are invited to participate in the whole three-day event.
Early bird: $175 (Before June 30) Full registration: $200 From July 1-August 10 or earlier if all tickets are sold
Non-members are invited to join us on Saturday 22 August.
Early bird: $105 (Before June 30) Full registration: $120 From July 1-August 10 or earlier if all tickets are sold

Note: costs do not include accommodation.

People who jog, run, and sprint have their share of problems that slow-moving people can barely comprehend. One is oversupination. As the OED defines it, to oversupinate is “To run or walk so that the weight falls upon the outer sides of the feet to a greater extent than is necessary, desirable, etc.” A 1990 Runner’s World article gets to the crux of the problem: “It’s hard to ascertain exactly what percentage of the running population oversupinates, but it’s a fraction of the people who think they do.” Credits to Mark Peters.
