A group walk for all in Prespa. For most people, participating in events has the prominent intention of meeting others, whatever the focus of that event may be. On the other hand, one of the main aims of WAC International Encounters / Conference seems to be the forming of a community. In line with the pre-mentioned assumptions; communication, exchange of thoughts and interaction seem to be the main ingredients and thus, should be promoted for covering those individual needs and accordingly serve to strengthen a community.
Since the act of walking can be approached in different ways, what is proposed as a “walkshop” for the Encounters / Conference, is a walk which quests “Communicative forms of walking”. The design of this walkshop, includes a two-hour walking route with alternating subgroups within a group of 12 people. It is a relatively undemanding afternoon walk from the “artistic station” to Cape Roti in Psarades-Prespes and back. On the way to Cape Roti , it is suggested that participants walk in pairs with the most unfamiliar members of the group, in order to get to know each other. Three different ways of pairing the group participants will happen until we reach our destination. Under the kiosk in the spectacular area where the cape is posed, every participant will be introduced by his/her walking mates to the others. The common experience of freely sharing the silence with the place, will follow. On the way back, the design includes two parts: a free walk interaction into a grove and a focused discussion into separated subgroups of three. A proposed topic for discussion is “How walking could be assumed as a communicative form of art”. After completing the walk, a group open discussion and a process assessment will conclude the experience.
