The project explores the river as a water body which constantly flows “through place and time of human history”, leaving behind the traces that become inevitable part of the environment and a proof of the cohabitation of nature and humans. In the soundwalk, you learn about the notion of co-existence and discover the history and ethnography of the river which is a joint effort of both water and human.
The river designs and concocts life, it shapes our living space, delivers and takes back goods – it is a body of water that travels through space and time. Exploring rivers through the accounts of people oftentimes exposes problems, challenges and suggests possible solutions of living with a river and a life around a river. Every water body cohabits with humans and vice-versa; people live with a river that sustained their life. Over time, these roles changed, fell into oblivion and transformed into a manipulative exploitation of resources and the destruction of habitats that evolved or have for ever existed around/in a river.
The project is based on the interviews with the residents, experts on the Sava river, the study of the development of the city around it and the research of the Majdičev log. Many layers of the Majdičev log stories reflect the intertwinement of people and the surrounding that shaped and experienced the transformation of the river through the history of Kranj and the Sava Island.
