Storylarking

Storylarking - found objects

“The way in which these stray pictures cross your paths, it has something at once totally coincidental and fateful about it.”
W.G. Sebald

Storylarking
Walking rituals, games and field notes for making stories from place
Storylarking is a playful word inspired by mudlarking: searching the foreshore at low tide for small, overlooked treasures. In this 90-minute workshop, the treasures are story fragments found while walking.
Through simple walking rituals, prompts, games and field-note exercises, participants move through a chosen route, noticing sounds, images and small encounters, gathering fragments that become the raw material for story, while allowing the place itself to have a hand in shaping what surfaces.
Participants may work alone, in pairs or in small groups. The emphasis is on letting narrative emerge from movement, attention and montage. By the end, each participant has a small collection of field notes and the first shape of a story carried home from the walk.

Walking Arts & Local Communities (WALC) is an artistic cooperation project, co-funded by the European Union, Creative Europe, starting in January 2024 for four years. With seven partners from five countries, WALC establishes an International Center for Artistic Research and Practice of Walking Arts, in Prespa, Greece, at the border with Albania and North Macedonia, backed up by an online counterpart in the format of a digital platform for walking arts.

WALC builds on the previous work of hundreds of artists and researchers already practicing Walking Arts as a collaborative medium, and having met at the significant previous walking arts events and encounters in Greece, Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, and during online activities at walk · listen · create.

We acknowledge the support of the EU Creative Europe Cooperation grant program in the framework of the European project WALC (Walking Arts and Local Community).
