Summer Interactive Listening Walk: Preston Park, Brighton

Summer Interactive Listening Walks

‘Wonderful! This has opened up a whole new world for me’

Join us for a lovely Summer walk with a difference: we’ll be exploring Preston Park in Brighton past and present using a range of creative listening tools that are fun and accessible for people of all abilities. We invite you to open your ears to experience our surroundings.

What to expect:
We expect to be walking gently for just over an hour, with some uphill and uneven terrain. We will be stopping frequently to listen. It will be mild-moderate walking difficulty. Please wear appropriate walking footwear, cover your legs, and bring drinking water.

After our walk, we’ll be providing picnic-style refreshments in the park.

Is this for me?
All adults are welcome to take part in the sessions. No music-making or listening walk experience is necessary, just an openness to take part and try new things.

If you have any concerns about listening or walking, please contact us to discuss.

plodge

The Scottish and English word plodging has been wading through the lexical muck and mire since the late 1700s, and it refers to icky, slow, molasses-type walking. Plodge is probably a variation of plod. This word isn’t totally out of use, as a 1995 use from British magazine The Countryman illustrates: “Northbound Pennine Wayfarers, plodging through the interminable peat-bogs of the North Pennines.” Even if you have a spring in your step, it’s tough to skip merrily through the peat-bogs. Credits to Mark Peters.
