Walking Arts and Relational Geographies evolves this year into The Walking Assembly. The name itself reflects a shift toward a more horizontal form of gathering, where everyone has an essential role to play. For the Walking Assembly, there will be no academic papers or independent workshop proposals; instead, participation is grounded in shared presence, contribution, and collective engagement facilitated by walking and talking together, through a public conversation with Tim Ingold and 5 curated walkshops by the curatorial team.
We warmly invite all interested applicants to attend an online information session about the Open Call for the Walking Assembly 2026. The session will take place on Tuesday 3 February at 17:00 (CET) and will be hosted by the organisers and members of the curatorial committee.
During this meeting, we will:
Briefly introduce the concept, structure, and spirit of the Walking Assembly 2026
Clarify the different participation formats (Confluence and Expedition)
Explain the application process and selection criteria
Open the floor for questions from prospective applicants
This online information session is intended as an open and informal moment to meet the team, better understand the Walking Assembly, and ask any questions you may have relating to your application. We will also explain how participants will become integrated into one of the four proposed expedition groups, and how all attendees of the Walking Assembly 2026 can participate remotely with their research.

The Walking Assembly 2026
The Walking Assembly 2026 (9–13 May 2026) is a nomadic, field-based gathering in Catalonia for artists, researchers, educators, and collectives exploring walking as embodied, relational, and ecological knowledge. Moving from conference to assembly, it proposes learning without teaching, where knowledge emerges through shared walking, presence, and collective experience.
