A walking tour of the Cathedral Quarter (Belfast’s Cultural District) with opportunities to explore art galleries, sites of urban art and to create portable artworks along the way. There will also be a chance to visit a gallery cafe as part of the walk. Participants are asked to bring along money for refreshments, a fully charged mobile phone and dress for changeable weather.

What’s it about?

The art of walking is for families with young people (aged 12-18) who will participate in the discovery of the Cathedral Quarter (the cultural district of Belfast) as urban explorers. Through gallery visits and creative encounters within Belfast streets, participants will respond to art as a route of creativity. Take your imagination on a stroll and make contact with studios in the thoroughfares of everyday life, within the Belfast School of Art and discover your own inner artist along the way. Families will be invited to create together as an artist collective and think about the potential of creating their own studios at home based on their artistic encounters. This event has been inspired by a collaboration between the Belfast School of Art and the School of Architecture and the Built Environment at Ulster University. The walk is also part of Your City Your Voice a Community Consultation for Quality of Life initiative in partnership with Belfast City Council. The aim of the walking studio is to imagine Belfast as a canvas for creative living full of life materials for the art of the family.
