2023 marked the inaugural Marŝarto Award for outstanding walking art, for which we had an overwhelming response, with submissions from 5 continents. Meet the shortlisted artists, and discover the nuts and bolts of making walking art, in this roundtable discussion hosted by Geert Vermeire.
Join a lively discussion with Walking Artists who submitted pieces to the inaugural peer-reviewed Marŝarto Award and were selected by the walk · listen · create community as being ‘the best in the crop’ making the shortlist.
Here are the shortlisted artists who have already accepted our invitation to join a discussion hosted by Geert Vermeire: Rachel Epp Buller, Babak Fakhamzadeh, Janice Jensen, Chris Kaczmarek, Deirdre Macleod, Roelant Meijer, Alison Neighbour, Sonia Overall, Kel Portman, and Jenny Staff.
Geert is going to pose some tricky questions, not least:
What is Walking Art? and what makes it special? Is it just live art? Is it just going for a walk? Is it something more profound, and whatever it is how can we inspire more people to make Walking Art and to encourage others to come along and get involved?
Once you have created a piece that you submit to walk · listen · create’s archive and elect to enter the Marŝarto Award, your piece is reviewed by a group of online jurors who have volunteered from across the walking art community. Be aware that the closing date for the Award is 31 October, 2024. The value of the Award is determined by the number of supporting artists and art institutions who pay an annual subscription to walk · listen · create – and this year, that means the Award this year is worth €500!
This could be one of the largest collections of walking artists to appear online since COVID – and quite probably the most entertaining – so we will be offering up a prize to one event attendee who can suggest a common name for such a worthy collection of Walking Artists. If you are not in, you cannot win!
We charge for our tickets and pass on 70% of the ticket revenue to our guests. If however, you are unable to afford buying a ticket, we’re always very happy to a complimentary ticket, just let us know.
