A route pursuing locations mentioned in a deeply strange book

Crook Frightfulness is an enigmatic text published anonymously by “A Victim” in 1936. A great deal happens in the book but it culminates in the town of Aberystwyth and mentions various places explicity. The map indicates these places – it is not difficult to tour them in the order they are mentioned.

Assiduous research has determined the identity of the author as Arthur Mills, d1952, buried in Aberystwyth.

Superficial information is here. Dan Wilson has a fuller article in Fortean Times 305.

pedestrianate

This word has been around since the mid-1800s. Here it is in an 1864 issue of the journal Notes & Queries: “I have been pedestrianating through a corner of Oxfordshire.” Credits to Mark Peters.
