The Colour Charts are created during colour walks where the artist collects pigments—gravel, dirt, dust, and bird droppings—from overlooked city places. Using watercolor, these collected traces form charts, mapping the city through experimental exploration.

The Colour Charts are a product of a fairly simple work method: I go out on the streets with a watercolor pad, a brush and some water. The paper is small enough to be held with one hand, in sizes ranging from A6 to A4. I collect the pigments that I find on these colour walks – gravel on roads, dirt from window panes, dust and bird droppings – with the brush, and apply them in order on the sheet of paper. The dirt traces me to the overlooked places in the city where the dirt collects, to gaps and on routes I could not have foreseen. The walks, like a dérive, become an experimental way to explore the city. In the work’s title, the word “chart” is used in the double meaning of the word: both as a systematic arrangement of colour, and in the geographical sense as a scematic representation of an area or a route.

The work was first shown in my MFA exhibiton.
It was more recently shown at Rochester Art Center, in the group exhibition "Walk with Us", curated by Zoe Cinel and John Schuerman.
