An Equinox provocation

Kel Portman
Walking piece
A creative provocation/invitation to respond to the Equinox using walking as a catalyst.

This provocation invited walking artists to respond creatively to seasonal change. It drew contributions from poets, musicians, lens-based artists and painters from Europe, Canada, Australia, Egypt and the USA.

The Equinox marked the first day of Autumn in the southern hemisphere and Spring in the northern, falling on Friday, 20th March 2026.
It was celebrated as the moment when day and night were, in principle, of equal duration.

It offered an opportunity to recognise a sense of transformation, balance, and renewal, as well as the shift in seasons – marked by changes in day length, an evolving landscape and the transition from one season to another.
