This provocation invited walking artists to creatively response to the seasonal change.

The Equinox marks the first day of Autumn in the north and of Spring in the south. This year it fell on Monday, 22nd September.

The Equinox is celebrated when day and night are in principle, of equal duration. In the northern hemisphere it’s also known as the pagan festival of Mabon that marks a time of harvest – in the southern hemisphere, the onset of Spring.

It’s possibly a moment to recognise a sense of balance and seasonal transition, marked by a progressive altering of day length, of changing landscape and weather patterns.

This provocation invited artists to creatively response to the seasonal change. In common with previous challenges, it uses walking and time as a common thread, along with the concepts of transformation; renewal; balance. While many artists have decided to work as individuals, several have elected to work collaboratively with another artist, randomly chosen by curator and producer Kel Portman.
