This sound walk, called “Practical Exercise Of Wonder And Surprise – Silence And Listening,” invites people to slow down and really tune into the sensory world around them. It is a gentle invitation to notice small, often missed details and to experience silence in a new way. The walk encourages a sense of curiosity and surprise, guiding listeners to experience the world differently.Originally created to accompany the exhibition “Mirò meets Maria Lai. The Fascination of Surprise” at Museo CaMùc and the Stazione dell’Arte in Ulassai, Sardinia, the piece touches on big, universal concepts like structure, color, and how space feels, without focusing on any one artwork. Because of this, it works well as a mindfulness exercise in almost any setting, whether in a gallery or in a place of cult. With recorded narration and subtle sound design, the experience invites moments of quiet reflection, offering a chance to connect with oneself and what’s around, opening up space for thought and wonder.
The pace of the walk is deliberately slow and unhurried, allowing plenty of time for surprise and quiet discovery. It invites listeners to take pauses, breathe deeply, and gently guides them without pressure, helping them feel completely at ease and open to unexpected details in their surroundings. The sound design is subtle and atmospheric, using quiet layers of ambient sounds that blend softly with natural or architectural elements, enhancing moments of attentive silence and wonder.
The voice is warm, conversational, and intimate, speaking directly to the listener with a friendly, encouraging tone. It includes invitations such as “if you want, you can take paper and pen to jot down words or ideas,” and playful prompts like “try to imagine touching the colours or textures you see,” or “notice how the light changes through the space.” The narration emphasies presence with phrases like “try to be here now, letting go of other thoughts,” fostering a spontaneous, exploratory mood. This invites personal engagement and turns listening into an unexpected, immersive journey of awareness and delight.
