I mapped Knoxville TN's July 2026 First Friday art circuit in the soles of a pair of shoes, playing off the idea of First Friday Art Walk. The audience was invited to take a texture rubbing of the shoes on paper to guide them through the evening.
I make and exhibit monthly maps for the First Friday art openings in Knoxville TN, often called the city's Art Walk. Each map explores a different concept and material, but they all show the city layout with informational banners for each show hovering above a pin icon in a way that helps people find their way through the geography to find shows they may otherwise have missed.
For the month of July 2026, I focused on a visual pun, playing with the literal First Friday Art Walk with a pair of shoes—the map of Knoxville’s galleries inscribed into the soles. The audience was invited to take a print of the show banners and do their own texture rubbing on the bottom of the shoes to create a complete map to take around town.
