The recording captures the soundscape of what is locally known as walking on hollow snow.

This recording, using a Zoom H2n mic, was taken while walking on the frozen surface of Koojesse Inlet, just off the coast of the city of Iqaluit, on the northern territory of Nunavut, Canada. Taken on 5 December 2023, the recording captures the soundscape of what is locally known as walking on hollow snow. You can hear as I step on the snow, there is a distinct crunch, followed by an almost inaudible ‘swish’ (the hollow part), then a more noticeable third sound as I step closer to the ice. In the distance, there appears to be the sound of what I can slightly see are men on sleds, with huskies around them, fishing in the inlet. The recording captures this soundwalk at 13:45, as the sun was setting, on a balmy -25c hazy day.
