Before listening to it, please choose a place in your city that has been recently modified for the worse, becoming less human friendly and more hostile in its spatial design and architecture: here, there should start your audio walking experience.

Keep Going Then Vanish is an immersive walking experience by ThickSkin, part of the Walk This Play® series in collaboration with The Royal Exchange Theatre, exploring an unfamiliar Manchester through changing urban landscapes and introspective narrative. Participants use the free Walk This Play® app to follow the guided walk, which combines storytelling with movement to engage with themes of memory, perception, and presence.

Part of the Walk This Play® series by ThickSkin, in association with The Royal Exchange Theatre.

You don’t remember how you got here. Put one foot in front of the other. The world around you is new and strange, looming massive overhead, then vanishing to a tiny point in the far distance. You feel small. You feel hungry. You don’t remember why you need to keep going. Keep going.

Keep Going Then Vanish is a walk around a compulsively changing city, a desperately important mission, a set of instructions for breathing and noticing, an invitation to an unfamiliar Manchester, and a story about remembering and forgetting.

You will need to download the free Walk This Play® app to your device.

In the Walk This Play® app, search for Keep Going Then Vanish by ThickSkin Theatre.

Make sure you ‘download’ the walk while still connected to wifi, before you set off.

driftsinging

Drawing with (vocal) sound in response to place while passing through place. Driftsinging borrows from the Situationist Drift, and Baudelaire’s flâneur. Driftsinging also relates to the process of ‘sounding,’ the sonic measuring of distance and depth that locates position in place and ‘echo location’, the examination of place through sonic reflection and refraction, resonance and echo.
