Maps of Being XIX is a larger drawing made in the studio with reference to smaller drawings and videos made while walking in the familiar streets near my home in Sydney’s Inner West suburbs. I walk and draw mostly at night, carrying drawing materials in my pockets. Sometimes I carry a large drawing board suspended around my neck to facilitate drawing with both hands. My intention is to maximise sensorial input – what can I see, hear and feel as my surroundings pass by and how does this sensorial input translate into mark-making. My method prioritises presence; the drawing is a byproduct of the process.
