This film documents a series of ‘Dead on the Road’ walks that took place in Southern Chester County (PA, USA) in 2025: part re-consideration of how we mourn (or do not mourn) our road-killed more-than-human neighbors, it hopes to inspire reconsiderations of our built environment, in particular the impacts this has on the often unacknowledged lives of beings living right alongside us.
A component of the art exhibition, Near Dwellers as Roadkill, artists Lou Florence and Carol Maurer invited the public to participate in a series of observational walks along a busy highway in Pennsylvania in 2025.
The film documents this series of four gatherings, including participants’ conversations, acts of reflection and remembrance, and hopes of understanding different and better ways to live alongside our more-than-human animal near dwellers.
Near Dwellers is an ongoing, multi-part project hosted by Street Road and the Tree Museum, exploring animal-human relationships, with a focus on place.
Please note that this film includes multiple depictions of road-killed animals.
