Perambulator is an ongoing walking-based artwork that explores the lived experience of moving through the city with a pram. Drawing on auto-ethnographic practice, the project reflects on gendered space, maternal narratives, mobility, inequality and shifting identities, revealing how everyday journeys are reshaped by wheels.

Developed through the artist’s own experience of walking familiar routes with a pram, Perambulator highlights the detours, obstacles and negotiations required to navigate urban environments. Dropped kerbs, ramps, surfaces and street layouts become newly visible, exposing how access, care and mobility are unevenly designed and politically charged.

The project often takes the form of collective walks and participatory events, inviting pram users to share routes, stories and strategies. Adaptable to different locations, Perambulator makes visible the overlooked labour of care and the textures of streets that shape daily life, from long way-round journeys to the rhythms of walking babies to sleep.

Elements of Perambulator have been realised in the UK and internationally, including at Lewisham Arthouse, Deveron Projects, Flux Factory in New York, and through extended residencies and community-led walking projects.
