GrandTourists of the 21st Century. A 300km participatory art walk

In August 2025, a group of walkers set out on foot from Barcelona to Ogassa in the Spanish Pyrenees, eventually carrying a cello to the summit of the Taga, a mountain peak rising above 2,000 metres. This was the 11th edition of the GrandTour, a three-week walk that participants undertake alongside artists from different disciplines,

Lone Wolf: Walking the Faultlines of Europe

From Adam Weymouth, the winner of the Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year Award comes an epic walk across the Alps in the footsteps of a wolf, throwing unique light on Europe’s mountainous hinterlands at a moment of political and environmental change. In 2011, a young wolf named Slavc set out from Slovenia. Tracked by GPS,

Walking piece
A 55km, 2-stage walk from Florina to Prespa. Using a butterfly sticker to capture the landscape's trace and a sensor for my heart's rhythm, the walk's cost is measured in heartbeats, not kilometers. A cardio-cartography of a symbolic return.

This performance is an embodied walk of approximately 55 km, made in two stages: from Florina to Antartiko, and from Antartiko to Prespa. It serves as the poetic threshold to my main performance, A Line to Cross, A Voice to Follow, presented at the International Walking Arts Encounters (WAC 25).

It is rooted in my 2022 performance, Ex-tracés, as an inverted reactivation of a key stage of that epic walk.

The Protocol: The Dual Capture of the Living

During the walk, I implement a protocol of dual sensory capture:

The Skin of the World (External Capture): The device is a Monarch butterfly cut from a special double-sided adhesive paper. Fixed on my clothing, it acts as a passive sensor that collects the invisible particles of the landscape.

The Pulse of the Path (Internal Capture): In parallel, I perform a continuous digital capture of my heart rate. The kilometer is hereby abolished in favor of the pulse of the living. I am no longer measuring distance, but the intensity of the path.

The Trace: A Two-Faced Memory

Upon my arrival in Prespa, this performative gesture produces two distinct relics: the butterfly itself, carrying the memory of the landscape, and the final record of thousands of heartbeats, a digital archive that quantifies the emotional and organic cost of the walk.

Credits

This walking piece was created as an embodied introduction to my participation in the International Prespa Walking Arts Encounters (WAC25).

The performance was developed within the framework of the WALC (Walking Arts & Local Communities) project, hosted by the University of Western Macedonia.

WALC is co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.
