Security Barriers A–Z is a study of Karachi’s street security barriers (2009–2019), which emerged after 9/11 and examine notions of safety, economic segregation, state control, and political demarcation. Removed from context, they resemble minimalist abstractions.

A design typology of security barriers found on the streets of Karachi (2009 – 2019). These barriers, which started making an entry into Karachi’s streets soon after the attack on the Twin Towers in NY in September 2001, raise questions around the notion of safety and economic segregation, state control and political strategies of demarcation. Out of context, against a white background, they resemble minimalist abstractions.

fat man’s folly

A narrow gap in a drystone wall or rock face ie one a fat man would be foolish to try to get through. A number exist in the Lake District bearing that specific name but it is also a general term in Cumbria for any narrow gap.
