Cadarço (Shoe Lace)

In Cadarço, Marcius Galan tied his sneaker to a shoelace continuously produced by a braiding machine at Galeria Vermelho. He walked only as far as the thread allowed, turning movement into a negotiation with time, waiting, and constraint.

Consequences of a Gesture

*Consequences of a Gesture* (1993) by Daniel J. Martinez, with VinZula Kara, was a participatory parade through Chicago commemorating immigrant labor history. It combined performance, monument, and community engagement, turning streets into a living, historical stage.

Collaborative project where youth created ghillie suits to explore visibility, belonging, and connections to nature, culminating in a site-specific “un-camouflaging” performance in Guildwood Park with support from the Ontario Arts Council.

Sight Unseen: An Un-camouflaging for Guildwood is a collective project with the Community Arts Guild Youth Troupe using the ghillie suit.

The ghillie suit is traditionally used by military snipers and hunters to camouflage the human body, allowing the wearer to blend into landscapes. In this ongoing series, the ghillie suit is re-positioned in the open air of urban and suburban space. Over the course of 6 weeks, we worked as a group as each participant created their own individual ghillie suit while exploring concepts of visibility and belonging through our relationship and engagements with nature and each other. Together, we developed a site-specific “un-camouflaging” in Guildwood Park that engaged with the landscape, architectural fragments and bodies that populate and absent the site. The Community Arts Guild is an offshoot of Jumblies Theatre. Art making sessions were held at the Cedar Ridge Creative Centre and Guildwood Park.

GPS drawing

Drawing practices using GPS devices. Previously a planned route is studied. Although the drawing is done in the physical space, the creation must be seen through the applications that show those records. Also called GPS Art.
