Marcher, créer – Déplacements, flâneries, dérives dans l’art de la fin du XXe siècle

Thierry Davila examines movement and mobility in contemporary art as tools for making art, focusing on the figure of the walker or surveyor. The book starts from the idea that part of contemporary art gives movement a central role in the creation of artworks. While this continues a long art-historical tradition in which the walking

V Press

The website "Vpress Poetry" hosted on Blogspot serves as an online platform dedicated to the publication and promotion of contemporary poetry. It features a variety of poems from multiple poets, offering readers access to diverse poetic voices and styles. The blog format allows for chronological updates, where new poetry is regularly posted alongside occasional essays or reflections related to poetic practice and theory. Additionally, the site includes information about Vpress, an independent publisher specializing in poetry, providing context about their editorial focus and submission guidelines. Functionally, the blog is organized to facilitate easy navigation through its posts, which are often tagged or categorized by themes or poets’ names. The visual design is minimal, prioritizing textual content to highlight the poems themselves without distractions. Readers can engage with the material through comments, fostering a small community of poetry enthusiasts. Overall, the site operates as both an archive and a showcase for contemporary poetry, supporting the dissemination and discussion of poetic works beyond traditional print media.

The Modern Procession, organized by artist Francis Alÿs and presented by the Public Art Fund in collaboration with The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), is modelled after a traditional ritual procession. Beginning in front of MoMA at 53rd Street and Fifth Avenue at 9 am, the procession parades through midtown Manhattan, crosses the Queensboro Bridge into Long Island City, marches along Queens Boulevard, and ends at the door of MoMA QNS (33rd Street at Queens Boulevard), the institution’s temporary home during the renovation of the midtown space. Both festive and ceremonial, the procession makes the museum’s historic transition both visible and public, linking the two boroughs in a spectacular and memorable way.

Banda de Santa Cecilia, a 12-member Peruvian brass band sets the pace for the procession. More than 150 uniformed participants carry reproductions of MoMA’s most famous works—Pablo Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d’Avignon, Marcel Duchamp’s Bicycle Wheel, and Alberto Giacometti’s Standing Woman—on handheld wooden carriages. The presence of these reproductions pays homage to the history of MoMA while celebrating the cultural and economic potential of bringing art into the streets. Artist Kiki Smith serves as a representative of contemporary art. Carried by fellow participants, Smith leads the spectacular procession, which also includes banners, dogs, and scattered rose petals.

lonning, lonnin

Cumbrian dialect term for ‘lane’ – but a quite specific lane. Lonnings are usually about half a mile long, low level and often with a farm at the end. Many have specific names known only to the local villagers. Hence, Bluebottle Lonning, Lovers Lonning, Fat Lonning, Thin Lonning, Squeezy Gut Lonning or Dynamite Lonning. In the north-east the spelling is lonnin and seems to refer more to an alley than a country lane. The Scottish equivalent is ‘loan’.
