Walking into Dancing

Every walk, even the one from bed to stove, is a complete journey, a narrative filled with a dizzying variety of events, locations, people, creatures, most of which we overlook. For our bodies, walking is a series of controlled forward falls, a dance of conscious and unconscious choices. How do “I” and where I am

This collaborative walking art project features a live multi-channel sound and movement installation based on simultaneous remote walks across global cities, translating these into a layered performance space in Athens. Drawing on soundscape storytelling, movement, and historical-philosophical references, it explores urban memory and social inclusion through collective dérives and sonic localization aligned with the tradition of Plato’s Academy.

Walking piece
Watch Out! is an interactive walking experience where participants carry a backpack playing a sound composition that blends with ambient city sounds, allowing them to listen, perform, and compose in real-time. The project was commissioned by Vrijstaat O for the Expeditie Dansand! 2014 dance festival and documented by Canvas for the Atelier De Stad Oostende program.

During Watch Out! you walk around with a backpack that plays a sound composition which mixes with the real sounds around you. This way you become a listener, performer and composer while walking.

This project was commissioned by Vrijstaat O for the dance festival Expeditie Dansand! 2014. Canvas made this report for the Atelier De Stad Oostende program.
