Monique Besten is a visual artist, writer and educator who focuses on slow ways of being, likes to work site-specific and researches walking as an artistic medium. She is based in the Netherlands and Spain but is mainly at home where her feet are. She is a long-term collaborator of The Dark Mountain Project, teaches Performance Art at the University of the Arts Utrecht (NL) and is a keen Natural Farmer. Walking has been an important part of her work & working process in many different ways. Since 2012 she made 8 long distance performative walks in a business suit, some over 1000 kilometres long. In 2021 her first book ”The Wanderer. A traveller born out of words” was published.
