Walking piece details

“an/other time” was a walk that used an app, a mobile device, headphones, posters in specific locations and a printed map to discover the place and people of greater Moonah.
The content of the app contained over 70 short snippets or stories through images, animations, silent video, video stories and sound to uncover stories from the migrant community in Moonah and West Moonah.
The work was exploring memory and was an attempt to collect stories directly from the people who live or lived in the area. The aim was to remap through stories, walking, rediscovering the place while learning the history of the area, the migrant contribution which isn’t often discussed in the dominant narrative of Hobart, Tasmania.
The walk began at the Moonah Arts Centre, and participants would determine where they would go to discover and find markers (posters of people) in the streets. Streets included Main Road, Albert Road and Hopkins Street, all in Moonah. Each person was a gateway to numerous personal stories, the first was their personal audio visual introduction to themselves. The app then allowed access to more detailed personal stories.
The walk was as short or as long as the participant wished.
The work was shortlisted in the New Media Writing Prize, UK.
The app is no longer available to download.
