“Nomadism” presupposes the existence of a “landscape”, where the “Nomad” with walk-explore and will collect information in an empirical-emotive way. This information will be transformed in experience on which his/her mental and creative map will be composed. Through this map, ideas will be born and these ideas will facilitate the emergence of the “nomads” double identity: the identity of the field and the identity of his/herself .
The information and the way of its uptake are the foundation of the composition of the “nomads” identity. Walking through the natural (or urban) landscape, the “nomad/walker” spots certain objects or areas that stimulates his/her perception – memory – attention. The shapes and the placement of these stimuli compose the images/experiences that constitute his/her “knowledge map” .
The use of digital means of information collection beyond the sensory organs, helps in the more precise assimilation of the information and, in turn, the more complete knowledge of the “landscape”. The contemporary technique of photogrammetry through photographic, video and drone capture approaches, adds an extra dimension to Walking Art . It can capture 3 Dimensional data of any size objects or landscapes, from a pebble to a whole valley or mountain range and through this digitization can help retain the memory of stimuli in a non destructive way to the environment (taking away a 3dimensional object without removing it from the area) and can also help share the “nomad’s” experiences with people with disabilities that cannot experience it for themselves or other “nomads” in different parts of the world etc.
Workshop:
The proposed workshop will make use of various means of 3dimensional digitization of the participants surroundings. At least 2 mobile phone applications will be introduced (one for Andriod and one for iOS), along with PC (and Mac) software that makes use of digital photographs, digital video and aerial (drone) photography/video. During the course of the WAC week, participants in the workshop will be shown the apps and will be given instructions for the photo/video captures and the digitized material will be collected to be openly shared (either through a google drive or through a website url etc.). The collected material will become a “library” of Prespes material that WAC participants can reference in the future, and also can be used for the remote sharing of the areas/objects with artists in other places of the world, with disabilities etc. It can also be used as a comparison/review/statistical material on what areas/objects members of the same group will decide to focus on.
