Antonia Malchik

Essayist and author of "A Walking Life"(United States)
My first book was "A Walking Life: Reclaiming Our Health and Our Freedom—One Step at a Time," available anywhere books are sold. I have written essays for Aeon, The Atlantic, Orion, High Country News, and many other publications . I live in northwest Montana, where I advocate for walking and walkability, public lands, and local political engagement, in my wider community. I also write a newsletter, titled On the Commons, about the ancient tensions among commons, private property, and ownership, and what it means to be human amidst it all. And to walk! It's hard to wander when there are "No Trespassing" signs everywhere you turn: https://antonia.substack.com

zig-zag walking

A kind of attitudinal or intentional walk in which one chooses a zig-zag pathway, choosing a feature in the environment to walk towards and changing chosen feature and direction at will. A way to subvert prescribed directionality, and view, of built urban pathways.
